MY LAW SCHOOL EXPERIENCE AS A THIRD YEAR STUDENT

College life is known as one of the most memorable years of one’s life. It is entirely different from school life. College life exposes us to new experiences and things that we were not familiar with earlier. For some people, college life means enjoying life to the fullest and partying hard. While for others, it is time to get serious about their career and study thoroughly for a brighter future. And yes for me it is both fun and learning. I am in the place where there are full of unfamiliar faces where I need to mingle in. It teaches me to socialize and form opinions of our own more confident and composed. Now that I’ve just completed my five semester of 5 year course, I thought I’d share my experiences so far.

I am pursuing my BA LLB form Indore Institute of Law . I am 3rd year student (Five-year integrated course). Studying law is not at all difficult but it requires logic, persistence, and patience. Of course! You would need to work hard if you really want to know the law in its letter and spirit. I choose this college as it provide ample opportunities to every student , with experienced faculties.. To have the experience of real court room proceeding I was allowed to do internships at various commissions and tribunals which enhance basic skills in specialized area of law i.e ipc, crpc , evidence , corporation , family and labor laws . I also take part in various legal seminars which enable me to pursue specialized interest & perform legal task under experienced professors. I also take part in Moot Court competition that enhance the essential skills of research , memorial preparation. Other co- curriculars such as trial advocacy , legal drafting and client counseling competition .

I was extremely homesick during my first semester. It affected my academic performance in ways I didn’t recognize until my homesickness subsided. Further, I struggled to fit in with the law school crowd. I am introvert at heart, and I struggled to find alone time to relax and recharge. Finally, I am not competitive with others. I am competitive with myself. The First, two semester of law school — where do I begin? Well, for starters, I can say that nothing about law school, in general, came as a huge surprise during those first few months. The readings were long and difficult, the cold calls were dreadful, and the competitive spirits lurked right beneath the surface of conversations with classmates. In other words, law school consumed my life. Everything I did revolved around what readings and outlining. Most of the posts on my Facebook wall were by law school buddies sharing some law meme or link to an article/video attempting to extract whatever humor found in and struggles of being a law student. That was my new reality. As a first year student, I had class Monday through Friday, for about 4 hours each day. My class schedule became the backdrop for my day-to-day life. I relaxed and took my time in the mornings before class. I ate breakfast, chatted with my mom on the phone, and took time getting dressed. Most days, I attended information sessions and other student group activities between classes, unless I needed to review for class or take a nap.

Of course, there were occasions when I had to be more structured with my time, like when I knew my friends or family were coming for a weekend, or I had a special project due. In preparation for those instances, I would take fewer breaks and work diligently to get everything done before the weekend or upcoming deadline. I was single, young, and in a new city, separated from my closest friends and family. Best part in College life you can skip classes and go for mass bunks. Oh lord I love those mass bunks. All the students together decide to either not go to the college or go to some other place to hang out. Hang out is one thing all students are certainly in love with. Though attendance is necessary, but there is no hard and fast rule if you convince authorities. And the fun part is students pretend to not study though they study a lot. College life is meant to be enjoyable but it is also the time for building up your career. Your association with NGOs or getting a hand at internships will certainly go a long way in building your career. Extra activities like these build your curriculum vitae and shape your career. It also exposes you to the work ethics and behavior of corporate world.

The most fascinating thing that college has to teach me is to save money by hook and crook I learn to multi task chores in between juggling internships, college and societies. It develops a sense of achievement and pride in me .It prepares me to face the world with confidence. My life has changed pretty much since I joined college. I learnt to speak my mind out no matter what. I learnt to make friends. Sitting in the library, all by myself in the company of my books seems pretty relaxing to me. I learnt to deal with pressure. I also learnt to manage my social and my professional life. Because yeah, it’s important to study but a little hangout here and there does no harm to anyone.
